BioCert® Intelligent Identity Manager Support
Installing BioCert® Intelligent Identity Manager
The installation of BioCert® Intelligent Identity Manager
consists of software and hardware installation steps. All the
drivers for hardware devices supported by BioCert® Identity must
be installed separately. Only AuthenTec Fingerprint Reader is
fully integrated with BioCert® Identity installation. Refer to
Installing Support for Hardware Devices with corresponding
topics for further details.
Platform Requirements
BioCert® Identity is compatible with the standard Windows
environment and requires one of the following operating systems:
- Windows 2000 Professional with Microsoft Internet
Explorer 6 or higher
- Windows XP Tablet PC Edition
- Windows XP Home Edition
- Windows XP Professional
- Windows Vista (Coming Soon)
Before installing client software, refer to Installing
BioCert® Identity Software.
Installing BioCert® Identity Software
Running Installation
To start the installation, run Setup program. You must
have local administrator privileges to start the
installation. At the beginning of the installation wizard,
you must accept the license agreement to proceed with the
installation.
Choosing the Logon Interface
Logon interface component is used by Microsoft Windows
operating system to perform interactive logon into computer
or network. During installation, BioCert® Identity replaces
the Microsoft logon interface with BioCert® Identity logon
interface without confirmation. However, if a third-party
logon interface is detected as an active interface, the
BioCert® Identity Setup prompts to select the desired way to
log on to Windows:
- I want to use BioCert® Identity to log on into
Windows
- I want to keep the existing way to log on into
Windows
Note Whether you choose the first or second option during
installation, all BioCert® Identity features will be still
available from the user's desktop. By default, the first
option is selected.
When installation is complete, you may be prompted to
restart the computer in order to apply all the installed
features.
Note BioCert® Identity can be also installed in silent mode.
During silent installation, a third-party logon interface, if
any is installed, will be kept.
Installing Support for Hardware Devices
To support various authentication methods, you may need
to install various devices with supporting drivers and
software tools.
BioCert® Identity supports various biometric devices,
smart cards, and USB tokens from several manufacturers, but
BioCert® Identity installation does not install the drivers
or other software, except the software and drivers for
AuthenTec TruePrint based fingerprint readers. It is
recommended to install support for desired hardware devices
prior to BioCert® Identity installation and verify that they
work as expected. However, you may also install the devices
in opposite order.
The following types of hardware devices are supported in the
features provided by BioCert® Identity:
- Trusted Platform Modules
- Fingerprint Readers
- Smart Cards
- USB Tokens
Installing a Trusted Platform Module
BioCert® Identity supports Trusted Platform Modules (TPM)
as authentication devices and as encryption devices for user
data. TPM authentication is supported by the multifactor
authentication functionality provided by the system.
Note BioCert® Identity installation does not install any
software packages for TPM. Prior to the using any TPM with
BioCert® Identity, the user must install the appropriate
package and initialize the trusted platform.
Features and functionality enabled by TPM require that
the following components to be installed.
- Infineon TPP Professional Package v1.7 or later
- HP Embedded Security Manager for ProtectTools v3.0
or later
Installing Biometrics Devices
Biometric authentication is supported by the multifactor
authentication functionality provided in BioCert® Identity.
To collect unique biometrics data, fingerprint readers and
corresponding drivers must be installed. To support
fingerprint matching, fingerprint recognition software
should be installed as well.
Supported models By default, BioCert® Identity
installs drivers and recognition software that supports
fingerprint readers produced by AuthenTec. The
application also supports some other biometrics vendors but
does not install third-party biometric software. The user
must install the appropriate biometrics drivers and
fingerprint recognition software.
The following vendors are supported:
- AuthenTec
- Infineon
- SecuGen
- BioAPI v1.1 Compliant Hardware
Installing a fingerprint reader
- Ensure that the fingerprint reader is working
properly prior to installing BioCert® Identity.
- Install fingerprint reader drivers if required
Connect the reader to USB port
Installing Smart Card Support
BioCert® Identity supports smart cards as authentication
devices and as secure storage for user identity. Smart card
authentication is supported by the multifactor
authentication functionality provided by the system.
Supported models Smart card support is compatible with
PKCS#11 and CAPI complaint devices.
Note BioCert® Identity installation does not
install any low-level smart card drivers. The user must
install the appropriate drivers and ensure that the smart
card is working prior to BioCert® Identity installation.
Note HP ProtectTools smart card is fully supported
within HP ProtectTools Security Manager.
BioCert® Identity currently supports the following card
manufacturers:
- ACS ACOS5 PKI Coming Soon
- ActivIdentity
- Axalto
- GemPlus
- Oberthur
- Schlumberger
- Siemens
- DESFire Mifare Contactless smart cards are also
supported in the product.
