e-Wallet

BioCert® Identity e-Wallet is an electronic wallet which stores all of your personal information used for online transactions, including name, address, and credit card data. It is similar to using an actual wallet, except far more convenient and secured using your identity.

e-Wallet is designed to make online purchases quick, easy, and secure. It can automatically fill in your personal and financial information when making a purchase online. You can manage multiple addresses, phone numbers, email addresses, and credit cards and then easily select from these choices at the time of purchase. You simply open your e-Wallet, and with a single click, provide the needed information. Of course, who you give access to this information is entirely up to you.

The following topics are available to familiarize users with BioCert® Identity e-Wallet features:

e-Wallet Overview

BioCert® Identity e-Wallet is an electronic wallet which stores all of your personal information used for online transactions.

The e-Wallet conveniently stores all of the required information for an online purchase. BioCert® Identity automatically detects when you have arrived at the "check out" page in your browser. At this point, your e-Wallet is ready to conveniently and securely supply your transaction data to the site.

With one click, e-Wallet will automatically fill in all of the required fields such as name, address, phone number, email address, and credit card information.

You can access e-Wallet functionality after logon to BioCert® Identity using any of the following places:

  • In BioCert® Identity, select Services and Applications, and then select e-Wallet.
  • Right click the BioCert® Identity icon in the taskbar notification area, and then select Open e-Wallet.
  • The e-Wallet can also be accessed directly within Internet Explorer by clicking on the BioCert® Identity e-Wallet icon found at the top among the other standard buttons.

e-Wallet settings can be accessed in BioCert® Identity, by selecting Settings, and then selecting e-Wallet tab.

Managing your e-Wallet

This section describes how to manage your BioCert® Identity e-Wallet. You will want to perform these steps first in order to have your e-Wallet handy for online purchases or other forms requiring personal information.

To set up the e-Wallet, perform the following steps:

  1. In BioCert® Identity, select Services and Applications.
  2. Select e-Wallet, and then select Manage e-Wallet.
  3. Fill out your personal information as outlined below.

The following three tabs are available for you to fill in your personal information:

  • Personal Information
  • Addresses
  • Credit Cards

The personal information tab allows you to enter your name, initials, display name, and a description. Only the first name, last name, and initials will be used for filling in online forms.

The Addresses tab allows you to enter one or more physical addresses, along with associated phone number and email address. To create an address, perform the following steps:

  1. Select New
  2. Enter a name for the location, such as "My Permanent Home Address".
  3. Select an address type such as "Home".
  4. Enter a company name, if applicable, and click Next.
  5. Enter your address, phone, and email information.
  6. When you are finished, click OK.

Note
It is not necessary to enter information in every field, however empty fields will not be filled in by the e-Wallet for an online form. It is recommended that you first enter your home or most commonly used address before entering others.

The Credit Cards tab allows you to enter as many credit cards as you like for the e-Wallet to remember. To enter a credit card, perform the following steps:

  1. Select New.
  2. Select a card type (Visa, MC, etc.).
  3. Enter a description if desired, the name on the card, the credit card number and security code, expiration date, and billing address. The billing address may be entered here manually or one of the addresses already entered may be selected from the drop-down.
  4. When you are finished, click OK.

Note
BioCert® Identity will check the validity of the credit card number and alert you if it believes it is invalid. This is only a quick check that the number is within a known acceptable range for the type of card; BioCert® Identity does not actually perform a complete check as a bank or credit card company would. If you are sure it is valid, you may save it anyway.

The data entered into your e-Wallet may be changed at any time later on. You may update information several ways:

  • In BioCert® Identity, select Services and Applications, select e-Wallet, and then select Manage e-Wallet. In the Manage e-Wallet dialog box, select the item you would like to update, and click Properties or double-click the item.
  • Open your e-Wallet (from either the main menu, the IE button, or right-click on the BioCert® Identity icon in the taskbar notification area) and click on one of the links on the left side of the window.

For more information on e-Wallet settings and options (such as authenticating the user before filling in a page), refer to the e-Wallet Settings section in this help file.

Using e-Wallet for e-Commerce

Once the e-Wallet has been set up with your personal information, it is ready to be used for online transactions. BioCert® Identity will automatically detect when your browser has come to the point in an online transaction where credit card or personal information are required. At this point, a pop-up menu will appear at the top of the browser which says "The system is ready to fill in this form." Also, you may notice that certain fields within the online form have turned blue or changed color. This indicates that your e-Wallet already has those pieces of data stored and is ready to fill them in for you automatically. At this time, you may either open your e-Wallet or have BioCert® Identity fill in the fields with your most recently selected data.

In most cases, you can simply click on Fill In. After the fields are automatically entered for you, you may continue with your transaction within the browser. If you are not sure which pieces of information will be filled in, or you would like to select a different credit card for example, then it is best to open your e-Wallet and review the data before pasting it into the online form. In this case, select Open e-Wallet or open it from the BioCert® Identity icon in the taskbar notification area.

Once the e-Wallet window comes up, you may review your information and select from alternate addresses, emails, phone numbers, and credit cards as necessary. After selecting the correct information, click Fill In to automatically fill in all applicable fields. If it becomes necessary to fill in only individual fields, you may also select the needed field within the e-Wallet and drag it onto the respective field on the form. When a + symbol appears, release the mouse and that field will be filled in. If the Fill In button is not visible in the e-Wallet or the + symbol does not appear when dragging and dropping, this means that e-Wallet cannot be used on this form. Likely in this case the form is custom and has not been recognized by e-Wallet.

Note
BioCert® Identity e-Wallet is a handy feature and a great way to store sensitive information. It can help prevent fraud and identity theft by verifying that only the right person may use your financial credentials. However, the e-Wallet cannot verify that the site you are submitting your information to is trustworthy. It is recommended that you only submit this information to sites you trust, and only when some form of encryption is being used to securely send the data from your computer (i.e., the page is using https secure protocol and the gold lock is visible at the bottom of the browser window). Furthermore, it is highly recommended that the Authenticate user before filling page option be turned on.

For more information on e-Wallet settings and options (such as authenticating the user before filling in a page), refer to the e-Wallet Settings section in this help file.

e-Wallet Troubleshooting

The e-Wallet functionality is missing.

One possible reason for this is that the e-Wallet functionality has been turned off. The e-Wallet functionality can be turned off in the Settings section. To enable e-Wallet functionality:

  1. In BioCert® Identity, select Settings.
  2. In e-Wallet, select Enable e-Wallet functionality, and then click OK.
