iGuard IP Appliance for Access Control and
Time / Attendance
Time & Attendance
Plug-In Power Solution
For simple time and attendance solutions with the iGuard
you may use a plug-in power supply. Likewise for
access control, you MAY at your option use a plug in power
supply for the iGuard and another plug-in power supply for
the door strike, however it is HIGHLY recommended that you
use a wired-in 12v low voltage power supply system as
outlined below to comply with your local fire codes.
With either solution, you will need to make sure that you
have SINGLE STEP EGRESS capability to comply with fire code.
We are NOT electricians and any installation should be
done by a licensed, qualified low voltage electrician that
is authorized and bonded to work in your area. We
recommend that you look to your local locksmith or
electrician for the wiring install. The network
cabling and initial setup can be done by most qualified IT
professionals.
With the wired-in solution, a building permit may or may
not be required. See your local ordinances for
complete information on this requirement.

Secure Strike Relay -
IG-ER-01
 The
IG-ER-01 Secure Strike Relay controller further increases
the security level by controlling the door strike from
inside of the premises. With this optional controller, the
iGuard sends a special signal to this controller to open the
door, rather than directly open the door with the internal
relay. Because this optional controller is installed inside
the premises, it is now impossible for the intruders to get
into the premises, even if they destroy the iGuard.

Magnetic Locks
Door
Strike Release -
An Electric Door
Strike allows you to
enter a room without
having to turn the
knob on the door
lock by opening a
gate that allows the
lockset to pass
through the door
frame.
The iGuard releases
a 12v power
(Normally Open) or
alternatively
interrupts the 12v
power to the door
strike (Normally
Closed) to allow you
to pull the door
open. The gate
on the strike
release is at this
point freed to
simply allow the
door to be pulled
open. The
strike releases are
field-selectable
between Normally
Open (Fail Safe) and
Normally Closed
(Fail Secure).
One of the
advantages of the
Door Strike Release
is that you do not
need to retrofit any
door mechanisms, nor
do you need to run
power through the
door as you would
with a powered door
handle or mortise
lockset. You
can use your
existing hardware on
the door and replace
the strike plate on
the door frame with
the appropriate door
strike (cylindrical
lockset)

Magnetic
Locks - A
Magnetic Lock or
MAG-LOCK is a
locking mechanism
that uses the power
of a strong
electro-magnet to
hold the door shut
until you authorize
on the iGuard and
then the power is
interrupted allowing
you to open the
door. This
type of
implementation is
optimal where you
are using swinging,
roll-up metal or
glass doors because
you can secure a
metal plate directly
to the door to lock
onto the
electromagnet when
engaged. When
using this type of
locking mechanism
you MUST use a panic
button to interrupt
the power so that
you can open the
door in an
emergency. We
sell the button
release with the
panic button on it
to go on the wall
with. These
releases and Mag-Locks
are sold with a 15
second "delayed
Egress" timer giving
you time to hold
open the door during
an evacuation.
Additional equipment
at additional cost
may be required to
comply with your
local codes and/or
job field
conditions.

your local Fire &
Building
departments.

Another
option to releasing the door is to have an electric door
lock that is triggered by the iGuard system. This
requires a little more installation as you must use a
"transfer hinge" to transfer the 12v power through the door
frame into the door and to the lockset. If done
properly, this is quite a clean installation. If you
have solid wood core doors, you will need to drill a hole
through the door for the power cable to pass through.
If you have glass doors, this option is unusable as you
cannot pass the power through the glass onto the lockset.

Overview
The
use of a wired-in
power supply gives
you several options
that will improve
the efficiency and
operation of your
iGuard system such
as battery back-up
for power outages,
spike & surge
protection and
guaranteed clean,
efficient power at
the proper voltage.
We recommend the
Altronix or
Honeywell lines of
UL rated power
supplies.
Our standard
solution includes
the option of 2 -
5Amp Hour batteries
for power backup.
We recommend that
these solutions are
installed by a
CERTIFIED, BONDED
AND LICENSED LOW
VOLTAGE ELECTRICIAN
which can be easily
found in your local
Yellow Pages.
Installation of most
systems for a single
door should not take
more than 1-2 hours.
Additional equipment
at additional cost
may be required to
comply with your
local codes and/or
job field
conditions.
Please check with
your local Fire &
Building
departments.
